Even in modern days, children are being treated as labour. Every Child should be privileged to educate and play. But they are forced to do work. To deal with this situation Anti Child Labour Committee works for justice. They try to help children grow and provide opportunity to have education, healthcare facilities and enjoy their CHILDHOOD.
Government employees, workers, organizations as well as millions of people globally are supporting the cause on 12th June. World Day Against Child Labour is celebrated to raise an awareness on why every child has a right to education, freedom and enjoy childhood.
In 1919 the International Labor Organization (ILO) was established to set up international labour standards on behalf of lasting peace. World Day Against Child Labour, ILO-sanctioned holiday was launched in 2002 within United Nation body with the regard of child safety.
The ILO defines Child Labor as “work that deprives children of their dignity ,and that is harmful to physical and mental development”. The goal of the world leaders with target of 8.7 committed to “take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labor, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure to prohibit and eliminate any forms of child labor, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labor in all its forms.”
Impact of crisis on child labour is the topic that WDACL 2020 will focus. COVID-19 already resulted in huge sufferings & losses with an impact on economy and labour market stock. 152 million children are still working as child labour, including 72 million which are in hazardous work. Those children are at greater risk and that makes their life miserable.
Our future belongs to young generations. So, reducing child labour should be one of our prime objective. Children should have the basic right to have their life the way they want to have. It will provide us the opportunity to create a better world for children.
