Since 1967, this day has been celebrated annually round the globe on September 8th. Literacy is consider as the fundamental human right. Also, this day is well-known to spotlight the importance of literacy as a matter of right and dignity. It helps us to realize a more literate & sustainable society in near future. On this day, every country prepares and carries out different varieties of the expedition and indulges in several types of ILD activities. It also encourages us to give importance of youngsters and women education everywhere in the globe.

UNESCO stated the term International Literacy Day on November 7 in 1965. 8th September was announced is ILD by the 14th session of UNESCO’s General Conference on October 26 in 1966. To spread awareness of the world about the importance of literacy, it was announced to be held each year from 1967.
This year the theme is to focus on “Literacy teaching and learning within the COVID-19 crisis and beyond”. So the motto is to educate people in a smarter way.
