World Environment Day raise the opportunity to learn and show knowledge with our concern & pledge towards creating a better environment for present and future by solving environmental issues like global warming, human overpopulation, pollution, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. It provides us knowledge, a unique lifestyle so it should be in our best interest to preserve and conserve environment with care.
In 1972,on the first day of Stockholm Conference Human Environment WED was established. The conference that was held on human environment was selected to begin from 5th to 16th at the United Nations by the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Environment programme (UNEP). Now-a-days with celebrate WED at 5th June annually as declared in 1973.
Every year, it comes with a new theme and a new place to host to continue its journey. Highlighting the environment change with challenges & support the effect to address them, this is the focus of the host. Celebrate “Biodiversity” is the ultimate motive for celebrating “World Environment Day 2020” in the Colombia. They made a partnership with Germany respect with WED.
“Biodiversity is the greatest treasure we have…Its diminishment is to be prevented at all cost” –Thomas Eisner
Biodiversity defines ‘richness of species (micro-organisms, plants and animals) occurring in a given habitat’.
The term ’Biodiversity’ was coined as a contraction of ‘biological diversity ‘in 1985, by biologist E.O. Wilson.
Three of Biodiversity –
• Genetic diversity
• Species diversity
• Ecosystem diversity
These three levels of biodiversity must work together to create the complexity of life on Earth.
• It is the source of species on which humans compete for food, fiber, shelter, fuel and medicine.
• It depends on the biosphere, which in turn leads to the stability in climate, water, soil, air and the overall health of the biosphere.
Recently COVID-19 created a lockdown situation, where many people are unable to work and earn and it causes a life-death situation. Wild it shows us negative effects. Among them we can point out some possessive effects.
• Less air pollution due to less industries operating.
• Improvement of air and water quality.
• Positive effect on wildlife & Vegetation.
There are many problems related to the environment that need to be dealt with solving such various environmental issues by implementing protocols & actions to protect our mother nature and making a healthy environment for all. We may hold 5th June as a World Environment Day but nature safety doesn’t wait for a day. So we should unite & make every day as an environment day with care of our mother nature.
