Crawled but not Indexed – What is going on with this technical SEO issue and how to sort it

Running a website is a difficult thing. You write content, fix things, but still, sometimes your page doesn’t get the visibility on Google. This situation is termed as crawled but not indexed. It is a common technical SEO problem. This problem is fixable. Here, everything about this problem is explained- what causes it and how to get past it.

What is crawled but not indexed all about?

When you create a website, Google sends its bots to visit your pages. That whole visiting thing is called crawling in technical SEO terms. After crawling, Google then decides whether to save your page in its database or not. That saving decision is called indexing in technical SEO.

So, when Google crawls your page and decides not to index your page in its database, that means your page will not be visible in the search results.

Not every page makes the cut-Here is why?

Actually, Google does not index every page; there are some common reasons behind this.

  • Lack of useful information on it.
  • Search intent mismatch is another reason.
  • The website is slow.
  • Sometimes, technical SEO problems also prevent Google from indexing your website.

How to fix crawled but not indexed problems?

  • You should improve the content quality. It needs to help users. Sit with your page and analyse. and sort out whatever does not feel right.
  • You should add proper and related internal links. It increases the importance of your page.
  • Duplicate content is a red flag for Google. Check it. Rewrite it.
  • Google rewards fast websites. Start cutting down whatever is making the site heavy.
  • Go to Google Search Console. You will see a search bar at the top. There, you will see an option to request indexing. It is a simple way of getting Google’s attention back on your page.

Conclusion

Crawled but not indexed is not a big technical SEO problem. You need to adjust a few things, like improving your content quality, adding internal links, fixing the technical errors and also the loading speed. Just start fixing such things, and Google will eventually notice, and your page will get the visibility.
